Basically the notebooks have succeeded the basic desktop computers both in office and in home. Nowadays, there are even more compact notebooks which is transforming the method through which we may compute on the go. And this sort of new netbook computer is turning into quite a popular trend in portable computing.

There are tons of different choices in the market. Finding the netbook which satisfies your individual needs could be a tough task. Purchasing the netbook computer requires the efforts to be done just as much efforts that is required when you are buying a new notebook computer or a desktop computer.

It is important that you do some research before determining on what to purchase, search for the ideal offer and check up the latest electronic purchasing guides for the ratings and the features.

Most of the brands which produce the laptop computers also produce the more compact netbook. Dell, Compaq, Acer, Gateway and Asus are the quite common brand names. Individually Check out every of these corporations. Figuring out the features that you think you really need is the first step. The netbook generally provide the same functionality as the standard notebook. There are a few components which don’t come with a netbook. Be sure that you know what the potential netbook may come with.

One feature which is not included in a standard netbook is a CD-ROM drive. If you are looking for a computer via which you may watch the movies or listen the music, the netbook should not be fitful for you. Instead, you should buy a small device which may plug into a USB port.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad family has the ThinkPad T series, which concentrates on strong performance. Indeed, a laptop must have powerful specifications for it to deliver well.

The Intel Core i5 processor drives the Lenovo ThinkPad T410s. You have two choices: the Intel Core i5-540M 2.53 GHz processor and the Intel Core i5-529M 2.4 GHz processor. Integrated in these processors is the Turbo Boost technology, which accelerates the i5 processors when it is needed. Supporting these powerful processors is a minimum of 6 GB of DDR3 read access memory. A user may load up to a maximum of 8 GB of DDR4 RAM in the Lenovo ThinkPad T410s. Therefore, the RAM/i5 processor combination promises seamless performance even when running heavy applications.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T410s is one compact laptop, with a mere screen size of 14 inches, but is loaded with an amazing storage capability. One can store files with the up to 160 GB of disk space for the solid state drive option and up to 500 GB of space for the hard disk drive option. The 500 GB option promises worry-free storage especially when storing those heavy digital files like HD movies, games, music and very important documents.

A unique feature of the Lenovo ThinkPad T410s is the switchable graphics. A user can alternate between a dedicated video card in Nvidia NVS3100M discrete graphics and an Intel integrated graphics chipset with 512 MB of VRAM. Whenever one needs to edit or render heavy graphics, one may simply switch modes from an ordinary GPU into a boosted one.

It may not be a good idea to play hardcore games on the Lenovo ThinkPad T410s. However, the Nvidia NVS3100m graphics that is embedded into this laptop allows some heavy graphics for video and movie editing and even playing certain games.

SPECS

CPU

Intel Core i5-529M 2.4 GHz processor

Intel Core i5-540M 2.53 GHz processor

RAM

Up to 6 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 (4 GB 1333 MHz + 2 GB 1067 MHz)

Up to 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR4 (4 GB 1333 MHz x 2)

Hard drive

80GB or 128 GB SSD, 160 GB (5400/7200 rpm)

250 GB (5400/7200 rpm) HDD

500 GB (7200 rpm) HDD

LED, 14.1 WXGA+ 1440 x 900 MultiTouch

Dimension

13.1? x 9.4? x 1? – 1.25?

Optical Drive

9.5 mm CD/DVD drive with BluRay option

Battery Life

22 hours on 9-cell battery

Pros:

Lenovo did a good job in conceptualizing the Lenovo ThinkPad T410s. This laptop is very handy (as it is only a 14-incher) and is packed with powerful components that are usually found in larger laptops. Its Intel Core i5 processor is powerful enough to drive the most grueling applications. And it has switchable graphics and a lot of RAM.

Now, it gets high marks for portability. One can use the Lenovo ThinkPad T410s for a maximum of 22 hours if loaded with a nine-cell battery. If one is using a six-cell battery, one can use this laptop for around six hours.

Cons

The Lenovo ThinkPad T410s has insufficient VRAM to support hardcore games. Well, it can’t have everything. After all, Lenovo did not design the ThinkPad T410s as a gaming laptop.

What did Hewlett-Packard do to improve the HP Pavilion dv7t? Instead of the Centrino 2 processor, HP added the revolutionary i5 processor that promises superior performance in your average computing or not-so-average entertainment applications.

The Intel Core i5 processor is a sturdy and impressive chip, next to the almighty Intel Core i7 processors. This is one of the reasons why one should not have reservations on running heavy applications on the HP Pavilion dv7t. One may ask if the HP-Pavilion dv7t would do the things that the user expects? That answer is one definite “YES.”

So let’s find out why the HP Pavilion dv7t can be a top contender for the ultimate multimedia laptop. Not only did Hewlett-Packard update the HP-Pavilion dv7t’s brain, it also modified the laptop’s supporting units.

Let’s talk about graphics support. The first edition of the HP Pavilion dv7t is loaded with an Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT dedicated graphics card. Now the HP-Pavilion dv7T comes with either a gigabyte of Nvidia GeForce GT 320M or 512 MB of GeForceG 105M dedicated graphics card.

Let’s talk about memory support. Then, the HP-Pavilion dv7t was supported by up to 3 GB of RAM. The HP Pavilion dv7t is now supported by up to 8 GB of memory backup. One can expect a smooth and seamless performance with the size of RAM supporting the powerful i5 processor.

Let’s talk about storage capability. The earlier HP Pavilion dv7t allowed storage of up to 400 GB. Now, HP added 240 GB of disk space, making the HP-Pavilion dv7t a 640 GB entertainment laptop. Moreover, the laptop could be integrated with a dual hard-drive option, giving the user up to 1.28 TB to utilize.

Multimedia files, especially HD movies, consume a lot of disk space, pushing some laptop owners to buy an external hard disk. Now that’s real worry-free entertainment. With the updated HP Pavilion dv7t, it could take a long time before one can complain of lacking storage space.

On the outside, the HP Pavilion dv7t sports a chic and elegant finish. It comes in finishes like liquid metal black with silver lining and a Moonlight White finish. This laptop comes with a Blu-ray/DVD combo optical drive that ensures smooth playing of one’s favorite HD movies in Blu-ray media.

The HP Pavilion dv7t’s 17.3-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) screen has a16:9 aspect ratio, which is highly ideal for playing 3D games or watching HD movies. As it is a multimedia laptop, the HP-Pavilion dv7t comes with an integrated TV tuner, webcam, Altec Lansing stereo speakers, and connectivity features like a multi-card reader and USB ports.

SPECS

CPU

Intel Core i5-430M processor (2.26GHz, 3MB L2 Cache)

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-520M processor (2.40GHz, 3MB L2 Cache)

with Turbo Boost up to 2.93 GHz

Graphics

512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M

1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 320M – For i3, i5 and i7-620QM

Weight

7.74 lbs

PROS

The HP Pavilion dv7t is one mean multimedia machine. It offers a spectacular multimedia experience especially when one is playing games, music or movies. This is attributed to the powerful i5 processor, large amount of memory, 1 TB of disk space, hardcore graphics card, and high-quality audio and video.

When it comes to laptops, power is associated with heat. The HP Pavilion dv7t’s powerful specifications cause it to get too warm, especially when the laptop is used for long periods.

A netbook is a very useful little purchase. It makes even a regular notebook computer look huge and it truly has the ability to go anywhere. Today’s netbooks are tiny little machines packed with a reasonable amount of power. You’ll most likely get one gigabyte of RAM and a hard drive anywhere from 150 gigabytes to 300 gigabytes.

This is a perfect package for being on the go. With wireless hotspots popping up everywhere you can pull your netbook out of your bag and browse the internet, type a quick email, read an ebook, or even listen to a little music. How can you get the most out of your tiny computer?

First, remember that a netbook, though powerful for the small package it comes wrapped in, is not your typical home computer. It’s meant to be portable and light weight – both in the literal sense that it weighs very little, and that it doesn’t have the capacity to run heavy duty programs.

So you’ll want to use your netbook for what it’s meant for – simple things like you’ve learned above. Most netbooks come with one gigabyte of RAM, but almost all of those can easily be upgraded to two gigabytes, which will give you a little more power.

The next thing you’re going to want to do is get your netbook even leaner. Computer manufactures are notorious for loading new computers down with a whole bunch of programs you’ll never use. These programs are affectionately called “bloatware” because they literally bloat your computer. You want to get rid of them.

Take off what you’re not going to use. Make sure you use the program’s uninstall option or use the “Add/Remove Programs” in your Windows control panel so you uninstall the program cleanly. You can also use a small utility called “PC Decrapifier” to remove these programs. It’s free for home use and once you’re done with it, you just delete its file. I’ve used it on several new computers and I’ve found it works quickly and it works well.

As you remove applications you’ll never use, consider which applications you will use. Try and select lighter-weight programs that won’t take up a lot of resources as you run them. Firefox is a good web browser. It’s very secure and it doesn’t use a lot of resources – as long as you don’t load it down with a lot of add-ins! Save the plugins and other effects for your home computer. Keep your netbook clean and efficient.

You want a web browser and you’ll probably also want an office suite. Consider a minimal install that covers the basics – word processing, a spreadsheet, and possibly an email/calendar client. The Microsoft Office suite is a good one to try. It comes with these basics as well as a nice note-taking application that can be especially useful if you’re using your netbook in classes or meetings. Open Office is an open-source application that costs nothing and can be customized to the programs you need. Microsoft Office and Open Office are completely compatible with one another, so you can move files between programs.

A final tip for your netbook is to take advantage of the full screen mode offered by most programs. Netbook screens are tiny, so maximizing your program to take up the full window can make a big difference. The F11 key puts many programs into full screen mode, so give it a try and see if it helps you get more from your netbook’s beautiful, but tiny, screen!

Apple launched the iPad Tablet Computer with great fanfare at the end of January. But should you get one?

First of all let’s look at the features of the new iPad tablet. It allows you to browse the internet using Apple’s Safari browser. It allows you to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations using Apple’s iWork 2010 Office Software (which is currently used on Macs). It has an ereader, allowing you to read books on the iPad, and Apple have launched the iBooks store which allows you to buy ebooks directly from Apple for your iPad. It allows you to watch videos, and play games. And you should be able to read newspapers on it as well – the New York Times has already developed an app to allow their newspaper to be downloaded to the iPad.

Essentially Apple have made a single all-purpose one stop tablet computer in a handy size that is portable. Whether you should buy one depends on what your own needs are.

Book readers were disappointed to learn that the iPad did not use the iInk technology that is incorporated in the Amazon Kindle and Sony Digital reader. (iInk technology is kind to the eyes and allows you to read for hours without strain). However, Apple pointed out that their device was backlit and allowed you to read in bed. If you are a book-lover who only wants an ebook reader you might want to try the Sony Digital reader or Amazon’s 6″ Kindle, both of which are cheaper than the iPad (because both only read books and don’t have the other functions of the iPad).

If you are a business person who spends a lot of time travelling, an iPad might be ideal for you. It will allow you to create documents, contact your office via the internet and read newspapers such as the Financial Times, all on the go, on a single tablet. And the size of the iPad (9.7″ screen and weighing 1.5 pounds) makes it less cumbersome to carry than a portable laptop. The iPad doesn’t have a USB port – but Apple sell dongles that attach to the iPad which do have ports and which you can use to transfer documents to and from your PC.

Gamers might also be interested in the iPad – but note that Sony are also releasing the Sony Dash, which allows you to play games, listen to music, watch video and browse the internet, and is cheaper than the iPad (because it doesn’t have the ereader functions or the office functions). However, if you are a gamer who also wants to be able to write essays, do work and surf the net, then the iPad is a better solution.

With technology improving at a rapid rate, it was just a matter of time for engineers to come out with a laptop that was both light and compact – as if the ones we already had were not “compact” enough. Well these new mini laptops pack a punch for what they are. Some of them are as little as 10 inches and still have some decent computing power. In the rest of the article, I will be discussing some of the reasons that more and more students are switching to mini laptops.

The main reason that college students are switching to mini laptops is that they are small, or at least that’s what I think. They are light and can fit into basically any back pack. They are great for taking to class because most teachers these days will allow students to use their laptops to take notes. This is a great idea people – How many of you out there can type faster than you can write? I know that I can. Also, many people don’t think about the impact that you would be having on the environment. By typing your notes and filing them on your computer you will be saving trees to a certain extent. Hey, anything helps.

Most of the mini laptops do not have a great deal of hard drive or memory that a regular laptop has, but now more companies are adding the option of whether or not you want to upgrade your net book or mini laptop. Hp has a really nice model that can be upgraded to 160GB or 250GB. As I stated earlier, technology is improving these little units and they are becoming more and more popular.

Laptop prices have definitely come down significantly. The cost really was quite prohibitive up until around two thousand and eight when the prices started coming down quickly.

What Drives the Price

The simple answer to what drives the price is technology. The newer the technology the higher the price, but technology is changing so quickly that what was new six months ago is now old, and for obvious reasons they are not going to just throw the old items out they will sell the models with the “older” technology at a reduced price.

Market supply and demand will also drive the price. If an item is in high demand and manufacturing standards can’t keep up than the odds are that the price will be higher, because people are willing to pay more for an item when it is scarce, the vendors know this so they charge more money.

There are also add on items that may drive the cost of the laptop up, like a built in camera for video conferencing, a remote control so that the laptop can be used to watch television.

The size of the memory and the screen size also will play a role in laptop prices. Typically the more memory and the larger the screen the more expensive it will be. The newer the technology that is implemented into the laptop the higher the price will be, the more add on technology the higher the price will be, the price is generated by not only the type of technology but the amount of technology that goes into the laptop.

Approximate Costs

The prices ranges greatly an older model laptop can be had for around four hundred dollars. A top of the line newer model with all the latest technology can run into the thousands. It is entirely relative to the available features and the level of the technology.

Purchasing Sources

There are plenty of vendors that sell laptops. All electronic stores will sell laptops, most discount box stores will also sell them.

There are also some models that can be purchased online. A great source for laptops in the online auction sites where there are both new and used models available.

Comparison shopping and reading customer reviews can go a long way in making a good choice.

Laptop prices will continue to fall as technology improves further and becomes more available. Soon enough there will be a laptop in every home because they will be affordable to everyone.
